September 30, 2025SURABAYA, INDONESIA – The Dementia and Aging Care Research Center (DACRC), Universitas Airlangga, continues its collaborative research initiative with Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) and Universitas Negeri Malang (UM). The collaboration aims to strengthen cross-institutional research in technology and geriatric nursing innovation.
This partnership builds upon the long-standing academic relationship among the three leading universities in East Java. Through the program, DACRC seeks to integrate health sciences, digital technology, and educational innovation to enhance the quality of elderly care. The collaboration also demonstrates Universitas Airlangga’s commitment to interdisciplinary research that addresses the growing challenges of an aging society.
Strengthening Interdisciplinary Research and Academic Synergy
The joint initiative focuses on developing research models that connect engineering, data science, and nursing. DACRC contributes expertise in dementia and aging studies, while ITS brings its technological innovation capabilities. Meanwhile, UM provides academic insights in nursing education and gerontology. Together, these institutions design research projects that translate scientific findings into practical healthcare improvements.
Moreover, this collaboration encourages the creation of integrated digital systems for elderly care assessment and service optimization. The team also explores the use of wearable sensors, telehealth platforms, and AI-based monitoring tools for geriatric patients. Each institution shares resources, knowledge, and human capital to achieve measurable impacts in the field of aging care.
Advancing Research Capacity and Educational Innovation
Beyond research, the collaboration promotes knowledge exchange through joint publications, workshops, and curriculum development. The three universities plan to organize an international symposium highlighting recent breakthroughs in dementia research and nursing technology. This initiative will also provide a platform for students and researchers to engage in innovation-driven learning experiences.
Through this partnership, DACRC strengthens its national and global position as a center for excellence in dementia and aging research. The collaboration also supports Indonesia’s vision to improve the quality of elderly care education and services through technological integration.
